Frequently asked questions
Do I need to book the Dalí house at Portlligat in advance?
Yes. Every visitor needs a booking for a set date and entry time, whatever their age or fare. Online tickets are not sold for the same day, so book at least a day ahead, and further ahead in summer.
How big are the groups?
Small. The house is visited in groups of up to eight people, and a new group goes in every ten minutes from opening time. A member of museum staff walks each group through the rooms.
Is it a guided tour?
No. Staff accompany your group through the interior so the rooms are not crowded, but the visit is not a commentary tour. Guided tours of any kind need the museum's prior permission.
How long does the visit take?
About an hour. The accompanied route through the rooms and studio takes around thirty minutes, then you walk the Olive Grove and courtyards at your own pace.
Why do I have to arrive 30 minutes early?
The museum asks every visitor to collect their ticket at the ticket office on the beach 30 minutes before the entry time. If you miss that, the ticket is cancelled and later entry depends on space that day. Treat the pickup time as your real start.
Where is the ticket office?
On the beach at Portlligat, beside the house: Platja de Portlligat s/n, 17488 Cadaqués. It is about 2 km from the bus station in Cadaqués, so leave time for the walk or for parking.
Who can book the student fare?
Students aged 18 or over with a valid student card. Bring the card to the ticket office; the museum checks proof for every reduced fare, and the same discounts apply to visitors from outside the EU.
Who can book the senior fare?
Visitors aged 65 or over. Bring a passport, national ID card or driving licence that shows your age when you collect the ticket.
Do children need a ticket?
Yes, every visitor needs one. Children aged 0 to 8 go free and we add them to your booking at no charge, but each still takes a place in the group of eight. Ages 9 to 17 book their own fare.
Can teenagers visit on their own?
Visitors aged 16 and 17 can. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, so book them into the same slot as the adult travelling with them.
Can I bring a backpack or a pushchair?
Not inside. Medium and large bags, luggage, backpacks worn on the back and pushchairs stay at the left-luggage office on the ground floor, opposite the entrance. Bulky items and valuables are not accepted there, so travel light.
Is the house wheelchair accessible?
No. It grew out of fishermen's huts and has narrow, irregular staircases, so wheelchairs cannot get in and the route is hard going with limited mobility. Ask us before booking if you are unsure.
Can I take photographs?
Yes, without flash. Tripods, selfie sticks and professional equipment are not allowed. Publishing photographs taken inside the house needs a licence from the Foundation, so keep interior shots for yourself.
When is the house closed?
From 7 January to 11 February, on 1 January and 25 December, and on Mondays from November to March apart from a few published Monday openings. From April to October it opens every day.
What happens if I arrive late?
If you have not collected your ticket 30 minutes before your slot, the museum can cancel it without refund. Entry later that day is only possible if a group has space, so build in slack for the road and parking.
Who are you, and is this the museum's website?
No. Casa Portlligat Ticket Concierge is an independent booking service. We book your visit with the museum on your behalf and email you the booking in your name; our price includes that service.
What if the museum closes on my date?
If the museum cancels your visit or closes the house on your date, you are refunded in full. Bookings are otherwise final once made, as the museum does not change or refund tickets for reasons outside its control.
